Can I control what an AI companion remembers?
Short answer
It should be. A trustworthy memory system lets you decide what becomes durable, see what was saved, change it later, and remove it when it no longer fits.
Memory should be a user decision
Passive accumulation is easy to build and hard to trust. If a system quietly turns conversations into a permanent profile, the user eventually has to guess what the product believes about them.
A better model makes durable memory intentional. The person can explicitly save something or approve a proposed memory.
Control continues after saving
People change. Context changes. A memory that was useful six months ago can become misleading today.
Xiara lets you inspect, edit, pause, use less, or delete long-term memories. The memory layer is meant to remain reversible.
